Want to live a healthier life? There are a number of things we all have a tendency to do everyday without realizing how they may be negatively affecting our lives. We get caught up in routines and it can be difficult to break unhealthy habits; consider doing less of these things and live more.
Judge less.
We live in a very judgmental society where everybody has an opinion, even of ourselves, that may be skewed by how we were brought up or lead to believe by others. A very smart man once told me the best advice, “Before you judge, try to understand.” Being more open-minded will actually help you live a healthier life, so it’s important to catch yourself every time you start to negatively judge yourself or others. Spread more kindness and reap the benefits two-fold.
Stress less.
Stress is one of the #1 causes of illness and mostly can be controlled. No, we don’t have any control over the unknown, but we can control how we react to it. Starting with a calm mindset each day will help to deal with stress in a healthier way and meditation, or just simply being aware of your breathing, will get you there. Learn about the 3 ways meditation enhances your life.
Scroll less.
This is another aspect of our lives that we sometimes don’t realize is affecting our health in a negative way; our cell phones. We don’t make a lot of phone calls anymore, but we do text, email and scroll through social media more than we should. These constant images, opinions and judgements will not only impact your psyche, but take you away from special moments with your friends and family that you would normally be experiencing. Schedule times to check your phone each day, and forget about it for the rest of the day. This may take some practice, but after a while you will feel so much better.
Binge less.
Food and alcohol can also become an unhealthy routine within your life. Become more aware of what and how much you are eating and drinking. Enjoy each bite and sip, appreciate it, savor it. When you are more mindful of what you are consuming, you’ll find that you’ll need to less to feel satisfied. This will not only make you feel better about yourself, it will also help you to potentially lose weight and life a healthier life.
Fight less.
Whatever has been plaguing you about another that may have caused fights or negative conversations, consider writing them down to get it out of your mind and onto paper, then throw it away. Whether it be a grudge or something that has angered you, get it out, breathe and move on. Believe it or not, this act will help you to fight less and have more productive healthier relationships.
