You shouldn’t always believe what you hear, especially when it comes to food. Over the years these particular foods got a really bad reputation through continued negative press that stuck for a long time. But now these 5 misconceptions must be debunked because these foods are so healthy and you should be eating them.

Eggs

This is a biggy! I remember the days of feeling I was doing something unhealthy for myself when I chose to have eggs for breakfast. But the experts were wrong. This food contains some of the highest-quality protein on the planet, in addition to numerous nutrients our bodies crave. Eggs are one of the richest sources of choline, a powerful nutrient that is critical to brain function. And nowadays we’re lucky to have choices in the egg department, so I highly recommend choosing the cage free, vegetarian fed brands to ensure you’re getting the very best. So eat eggs and eat them often.

Mushrooms

It’s funny, I just had a conversation with my husband about whether mushrooms are actually healthy for us. It turns out that yes, they are more nutrient-rich than once believed. The mighty mushroom contains some very powerful compounds that can actually boost the immune system and with that additional protection, may even fight cancer. Did you know that 5 white button mushrooms have more potassium than an orange? They are also low in calories and can substitute for meat with their earthy taste in some dishes.

Peanut butter

This food has become a staple in my diet because not only do I love the taste of a natural peanut butter, but it also is so fulfilling that I’m not hungry for hours following. In addition, numerous studies have confirmed that eating peanuts can lower the risk for coronary heart disease because it is associated with lowering total cholesterol. It’s important to remember that peanut butter is high in fat and calories, but in small amounts can satisfy in such a way that weight loss can be achieved.

Coffee.

Although coffee has received some negative press over the years, recently, it’s been discovered that it’s actually very healthy for you. That cup of joe you may drink each morning contains hundreds of compounds that can improve memory, hand to eye coordination and attention to detail. Coffee has also been found to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 28% for those who drink four to six cups daily. It’s been said, drink more coffee, live a longer life. Drinking it black is best, but if you must add a cream, choose an almond milk or low fat dairy; and skip the sugar. Remember to space out your cups of coffee throughout the day and don’t drink it after 3pm as it can disrupt sleep.

The lovely, beautiful avocado.

I cannot say enough positive things because the avocado is the best food in the world. Although they have, and continue to still, get a bad rap because they contain fat, it turns out, it’s the good heart-healthy kind. Scientists are fascinated with the active compounds contained in avocados that have been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It turns out, this beautiful fruit is loaded with antioxidants and disease-fighting compounds. In addition, it’s been found that pairing avocado with other foods better enables them to absorb the antioxidants in those foods also. So top your sandwiches, salads and eggs with a couple of slices of avocado and improve your nutrition instantly.
